【Announcement of the 174th WPI-IIIS Seminar / 第174回WPI-IIISセミナーのお知らせ】

Dear Colleagues,

We are going to have the 174th WPI-IIIS Seminar on-site as follows.

Date: Monday, December 26, 2022
Time: 13:00 -14:30
Venue: 1F Auditorium, IIIS Building. *On-site Only(No Online)
*To register, please visit the URL below: Seminar information will be sent to registered participants. (Deadline: December 23)

Speaker: Dr. Kazue Semba
Department of Medical Neuroscience, Dalhousie University, Canada

Subject: “Sleep/wake-dependent astrocytic plasticity at synapses to orexin and MCH neurons”

Summary: Astrocytes can regulate behaviours by interacting with neurons within neural circuits. My lab has been investigating the role of astrocytes in regulating glutamatergic and GABAergic transmission to wake-promoting orexin (ORX) and sleep-promoting melanin-concentrating hormone (MCH) neurons. I will present our recent immunoconfocal, electrophysiological, and electron microscopic results suggesting perisynaptic astrocyte plasticity as a cellular mechanism for sleep homeostasis.
